ABSTRACT

Objective:

To assess the pregnancy rates for the patients who had tubal reanastomosis and the factor of surgeon performing the tubal reanastomosis for these rates.

Materials and Methods:

The present cross-sectional study evaluated 59 patients who had tubal reanastomosis at the Diyarbakır Women’s Health and Children’s Disease Hospital between 01/01/2005 and 31/12/2013.

Results:

The mean age of the patients evaluated in the present study was 36.66±3.94 years, the number of living children was 4.66±1.8 and the duration of follow-up after tubal reanastomosis was 3.31±2.08 years. Success was achieved in conception in 28 (47.4%) of the patients. The reason for tubal reanastomosis was to have a new child in 43 (72.8%) patients, pelvic pain in nine (15.2%) patients, religious beliefs in five (8.4%) patients, and to have a child from a new partner in two (3.3%) patients.

Conclusion:

Tubal reanastomosis is common among the women who previously had tubal ligation and wants to give birth to a child. Women desire tubal reanastomosis for various reasons. In developed societies leading cause is the desire to have a baby from a new wife. Tubal reanastomosis should be performed at experienced centers by high volume surgeons. Due to the reduced success rates in the patients with advanced age, this patient group should be well informed prior to the operation. The experience of the surgeon is important regarding the pregnancy rates after tubal reanastamosis.
