ABSTRACT

Mucoceles of the paranasal sinuses are benign cystic tumors which show local enlargement because of mucus collection. Most common localizations are frontal or anterior ethmoidal sinuses. Chronic sinus inflammation and allergic disease are common causes of paranasal mucoceles. Aggressive mucoceles may cause destruction walls of the sinus. Large maxillary sinus mucoceles causing bone destruction is extremely rare in patients who did not have any nasal or sinus surgery. Paranasal sinus computerized tomography (PNCT) is an essential diagnostic tool which inform us about chracteristic of the lesion shows extension of the lesion preoperatively. Although Caldwell-Luc is a traditional surgical approach for maxilarry sinus mucoceles the endoscopic surgery become widely used method for appropriate cases. In this article a case of a large maxillary sinus mucocele presenting with facial asymmetry is presented. Clinical, radiological and histopathologic featureshave been reviewed.
