ABSTRACT
To evaluate the menstrual bleeding character, hemoglobin, hematocrit, and endometrial biopsy results before and after 1 year of treatment with Levonorgestrelreleasing intrauterine device in patients with abnormal uterine bleeding.
77 female patients in reproductive age, who have been treated with levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine device for abnormal uterine bleeding, were enrolled in the study. Findings of the patients before and after the treatment were compared.
Significant changes in menstrual bleeding patterns were detected in 58 of 77 patients (75.32%) treated with Levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine device for abnormal uterine bleeding. Increase in hemoglobin and hematocrit values were determined. 11 patients (14.28%) did not experience any change in vaginal bleeding complaints.
Levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine device in the treatment of abnormal uterine bleeding is a reliable and effective treatment.
