ABSTRACT

Objective:

Cleft lip and palate are common congenital malformations. Cleft lips or palate can be seen as isolated cases as well as with any additional anomalies. The aim of this study is to perform the retrospective analysis of cleft lip-palate cases who ere operated in our clinic between 2005-2014 and to evaluate regarding additional anomalies.

Material and Methods:

110 patients who were operated due to cleft lip and palate in 2005-2014 were included in this study. Patients are assessed regarding the operation age, sexuality, additional disease or anomaly, family history and repairment technique. Cleft lip is classified as left, right, bilateral and complete, incomplete, microform. Cleft palate is classified as secondary complete and secondary incomplete.

Results:

There were isolated cleft lip in 49 of 110 patients (45%) isolated cleft palate in 41 patients (37%) both cleft lip and palate in 20 patients (18%). 81% of the patients had no additional anomaly or syndrome, 19% had at least one additional anomaly or syndrome.

Conclusion:

Cleft Lip and Palate are the most common congenital anomaly of head neck area. Patients owning these anomalies are needed to get investigated for additional anomalies and genetic aspect. Seasonal retrospective analyses on these anomalies has the importance of showing the change in frequency. We consider that these kind of analyses can ease the follow up and enlighten the future.
