ABSTRACT

Cutaneous leimyosarcomas are rare malign tumor of smooth muscles and originate from arrector pilorum muscle of the hair follicles. These tumors are more common between fifth and seventh decades and occur mostly on extremities. Most of them are solitary lesions and usually small, average diameter is less than 2 cm when first detected. Histologically, a well-differantiated proliferation of cells of smooth muscle derivation are evident nearly all cases. The number of mitoses are considered the most important criterion of malignancy (more than 2 for 10HPF). Cutaneous leiomyosarcomas have an indolant biological course if treated by surgical excision with wide margins. In our study, we present case of an 48 year old woman with cutaneous leiomyosarcoma on left ankle.
