ABSTRACT

With our public survey we aimed to measure knowledge level of physicians about ionising radiation and its effects on living tissues.

To measure knowledge level about ionising radiation and its effects on living tissues 5 questions were asked to volunteer clinican individuals by using face to face public survey. Their position as assistant or specialist and time spent on work were recorded.

Overall success rates were changing between 13.8% to 89.5% with average of 56.9%. 7 individuals answered all questions correctly. There was not statistically significant difference between knowledge level of assistant and specialist physicians. There was not statistically significant effect of total time spent in occupation.

Despite the physicians knowledge level about sensitivity of radiation sensitivity of tissues, radiation doses of radiological modalities and radiation sensitivity of children was acceptable; knowledge level about even the minimal dose of radiation can cause carcinogenic and mutagenic effects was not enough.
