ABSTRACT

Acute appendicitis is one of the most common surgical emergencies. Torsion of the appendix is a rare entity which can mimick acute appendicitis preoperatively. While clinical findings are important in the diagnosis of acute appendicitis, radiologic imaging modalities contribute to the diagnosis in patients with unclear clinical features. In this case, we present a patient who was admitted to the emergency room with the complaint of diffuse abdominal pain and had sonographic findings suggestive of torsion of the appendix but finally diagnosed as acute perforated appendicitis in surgery.
