ABSTRACT

Pelvic İnflammatory Disease (PID )is an acute inflammatory infection of the upper genital tract (endometritis, salpingitis, tubo-ovarian abscess, pelvic peritonitis). PID, the most important complication of sexual transmitted diseases in woman, causes ectopic pregnancy (20 %), chronic pelvic pain (40 %), infertility due to tubal damage when it is untreated. In addition, PID is an societal problem that causes an increase in health expenditures and loss of women’s labor. CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), emphasized the importance of patient education about risk reduction and sexual health education to prevent infections.
