ABSTRACT
Objective:
Chronic renal failure is a disease which can be mortal when not treated and affects all organs and systems. In the treatment of chronic renal failure arteriovenous fistula which must be patent for a long time is needed. Fistula aneurysm can be seen as a late complication of Arteriovenous fistula. The aim of this study is to present the surgical methods performed for aneurysms occurring after arteriovenous fistula operation.
Material and Methods:
24 cases of aneurysm of 4 cm and above, which were developed in opened fistulas for hemodialysis between January 2011-January 2012 in Bezm Alem University Faculty of Medicine in the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery, were included in this study. 13 patients had radiocephalic, 11 patients had brachiocephalic arteriovenous fistula aneurysm. Ligation in 13 patients, aneurysm resection in 5 patients, partial resection in 3 cases and plication in 3 cases was performed.
Results:
Wound infection, hematoma, neurological damage and ischemia were not observed after the surgical procedure.
Conclusion:
If arteriovenous fistula aneurysm isn’t treated in time, ıt can lead to such conclusions as embolism, endocarditis, rupture, distal ischemia. Surgical treatment in arteriovenous fistula aneurysms is still the gold standard method since the risk of bleeding is not much and it provides protection with methods such as partial resection.
