ABSTRACT

Isolated tracheoesophageal fistula (TEF) usually could be symptomatic with symptoms of aspiration and aspiration pneumonia or atelectasis in late infancy period. In this study, process of the diagnosis and treatment in a patient with isolated TEF diagnosed in early infancy, was presented. Two months old girl patient was referred to our department due to cough, and bruising, and wheezing during the feeding, and complaint with the appearance of atelectasis on the upper right side seen at chest radiographs. Until two months old with a diagnosis of aspiration pneumonia was hospitalized in the neonatal intensive care unit had a history of. In bronchoscope orifice of the TEF was seen, and fistula was ligated with the right cervical approach. Follow-ups were uneventful. Performing of the bronchoscopy should not be delayed for diagnosis of isolated TEF in presence of cough, cyanosis, and wheezing episodes during the nutrition and recurrent right upper lobe pneumonia.
