ABSTRACT
Objective:
The aim of this study was to investigate age, gender, localization of cancer cases, to determine the profile of this area and to compare with data from other region.
Material and Methods:
We investigated retrospectively 17755 biopsy and cytology material based on pathology reports between April 2007-August 2012. We obtained data of age, gender, cancer localization and cancer type from pathology reports.
Results:
There were a total of 230 (38.7 %) cases originating from gastrointestinal system, 137 (23.1 %) cases from skin, 93 (15.6 %) cases from thyroid, 60 (10,1 %) cases from urogenital system, 21 (3.5 %) cases from breast, 21 (3.5 %) cases from lymphoid, 12 (2 %) cases from gynecological system, 7 (1.2 %) cases from lung and 12 (2 %) cases with metastatic cancer. 339 cases were women, 254 cases were men. Female/Male: 1,19. Mean age was 55,4 (17-86).
Conclusion:
In this region, gastrointestinal system cancers are common. In cancer control program, it is important to provide preventive and protective health care, to raise awareness and to generalize the early diagnosis and treatment.
