The Role of F-18 PDG PET/CT in I-131 WBS-Negative, Thyroglobulin-Positive Patients with Differentiated Thyroid Cancer

The aim of this study was to evaluate the role of F-18 FDG PET/CT (18f flourodeoxyglucose-pozitron emission tomography / computer tomography) in I-131 WBS-negative, thyroglobulin-positive patients with suspected differentiated thyroid cancer recurrences and metastasis. 30 patients were selected using these criteria. There were 11 males and 19 females. The pathological types of the cancer were as follows: papillary (26) and follicular (4). TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormon) level at the time of FDG PET/BT was suppressed (<2 μIU/ml) in all patients.

FDG PET/CT demonstrated a patient-based sensitivity % 91.3, specificity, % 71.4 positive predictive value of % 91.3 and negative predictive value of % 71.4. Sensitivity and specificity of FDG PET/BT in papillary carsinom classic type were % 88.8, % 33.3, respectively. However sensitivity and specificity of FDG PET/BT in papillary carcinom tall cell variant were % 85.7, % 100, respectively.
