Objective:

Anemia is frequent, potent and independent risk factor in Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS). Anemia gives rise to ACS by increasing myocardial ischemia and worsens the prognosis. In this study our aim is to detect the effect of anemia in patients with ACS, who were admitted and treated in our hospital.

Material and Methods:

50 anemic patients and 50 patients with normal hemoglobin values, who were diagnosed to have ACS and hospitalized in the Coronary Intensive Care Unit of Okmeydani Training and Research Hospital Between November 2011-September 2012 were included in the study. Datas were obtained retrospectively by case browsing.

Results:

In the patients with cardiac failure and hypertension anemia was more frequently seen. Among the drugs that has been used before hospitalization, warfarin was a common cause of anemia. However in the case group, mortality was higher than the control group.

Conclusion:

As a result, anemia was more frequent in ACS patients with hypertension and heart failure who were using warfarin.
