Social Work Profession in the Treatment of Drug Addiction

The field of alcohol and drug addiction requires both medical and social interventions. Due to the broad range of causes and effects of addiction in the social field, the contribution of social work profession to the treatment process and post treatment social reintegration efforts is valuable. In this study, a brief introduction to main characteristics of social work profession is presented and social work interventions in the field of drug addiction is discussed. Within the roles that social workers undertake in the team and through the interventions targeting individual, his/her family and the social environment, they are able to contribute to the efficiency of clinical treatment.
