Punch Biopsy Results of Nasopharynx Pathologies: 3 Years Retrospective Analysis

Objective:

Frequency of nasopharyngeal cancer was investigated at nasopharyngeal masses in adults.

Material and Methods:

In 685 patients presenting with symptoms such as neck mass, decreased hearing, nasal congestion and epistaxis; nasopharynx were examined with rigid or flexible endoscopes under anesthesia and biyopsy was performed for ruling out nasopharyngeal cancer.

Results:

Histopathologically malignancy was detected in 33 (4.81 %) patients. In 24 (72.7 %) of the cases with nasopharyngeal malignancy, mass was detected in nasopharynx on examination with with rigid/flexible endoscope. Blind biopsy were performed in the other 9 (27.3 %) patients.

Conclusion:

The age, sex, clinical and histopatological analysis of patients have been discussed in comparison with the literature.
