Postbariatric Body Contouring

Postbariatric surgery covers body contouring operations after massive weight loss. Increasing number of patients with massive weight loss as a consequence of widespread application of bariatric surery, necessitated extension and rearrangement of operations described for patients with non-massive weight loss. Body-lifting procedures create a firmer, tighter, more rejuvenated appearance for patients who have lax, ptotic tissues. Although, such procedures include mainly brachioplasty, mastopexy, upper back lift, abdominoplasty, lower back lift, and thigh lift, according to the needs of patients, it represents reconstruction of tissues in body, excision of redundant and flaccid tissues and hanging to certain anatomical locations. Liposuction, augmentation with autologous augmentation and fat injection operations can be combined with these operations when necessary. The most appropriate candidates for body contouring operations are the patients who has reached his target weight and kept this weight for at least 3 months and usually this corresponds to 12-18 months after bariatric surgery.

Preoperative assessement, surgical planning, assesement of the patient goals is the key factor for the successfully results. Preoperative, peroperative and postoperative cautions can minimalize the complications.
