Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome is caused by blockages in the airways during sleep. It is the most common cause of sleep apnea disease which can cause cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease and encountered with an average incidence of 2-4% among adult population. It is seen more frequently in men, women after menopause, the elderly and obese. Obesity increases incidence and severity of obstructive sleep apnea syndrome. In the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea syndrome, surgery, continuous positive airway pressure, general measures such as weight loss can be used. In this article, the relationship of obstructive sleep apnea syndrome with obesity and current treatment options are discussed with the literature.
