The use of information and communication technologies has dramatically increased in the health care system which has been evolving and progressing with the scientific and technological developments. Information and communication technologies, and therefore, the health care informatics are of great importance in terms of ensuring quality service by the health care professionals, reducing their workload, keeping secure records, as well as personal and professional development. Nurses, representing the majority group in the health care system, are among the most frequent users of the information and communication technologies. Utilizing the advanced technologies, the hospital information management system, and the nursing informatics in general is vital for the improvement of the nursing knowledge and practices. The purpose of this article is to describe the nursing informatics and emphasize the significance of the hospital information management system for nursing practices.
