Gingival Hyperplasia Occurs Due to Using Phenytoin: A Case Report

Epilepsy is a chronic neurologic disorder commonly seen in the children. Phenytoin is an antiepileptic drug commonly used in the treatment of antiepileptic children. In addition to the many side effects of phenytoin, it may also cause gingival hyperplasia. Gingival hyperplasia is gingival enlargement due to the increase in the number of cell. Following the initiation of antiepileptic treatment, 2-3 months after the treatment the gingival hyperplasia occurs and becoming the most prominent 9-12 months. In this case report, we aimed to attention that gingival hyperplasia occurs due to the using of phenytoin and giving importance of oral and dental care to patients that used pheytoin.
