Diabetic foot ulcers, is one of the significant causes of morbidity and mortality in patients with diabetes, occuring with a high incidence (12-25%) and indicating poor progression leading to extremity amputations. Due to the systemic manifestations of diabetes, the treatment of diabetic ulcer requires a multidisciplinary approach. Since the pathogenesis is multifactorial; for effective treatment, understanding the underlying factors, revealing the predisposing conditions for the ulcer, eliminating or treating these conditions if possible, is necessary. For efficient treatment of the ulcer; medical, surgical and adjunctive treatment options should be known and should be used in combination if necessary for salvage of the extremity. Considering that diabetes is a chronic disease; in the follow-up process; the patients should be explained about the risk factors in the pathogenesis and ways to protect them, to prevent the formation of new ulcers.
