Objective:

The evaluation of pap-smear results of patients who applied to our clinic and the determination of the cervical preinvasive lesion rates.

Material and Methods:

In this report, 11074 cases have been enrolled in the study out of 12239 cases that have been evaluated. Repeated smear results for the same patients, patients with known gynecologic malignity history and the smear results of patients with hysterectomy have been excluded. Smears have been obtained with CerviBrush. They have been evaluated by pathology specialists of our hospital according to 2001 Bethesda evaluation system.

Results:

Among the cases included in our study; 10938 cases have been found as normal smear result and 136 cases (% 1.2) as abnormal smear result. The incidence of ASCUS, LGSIL and other incidences have been found as 74 (% 0,7), 44 (% 0,4), 18 (% 0,1) respectively. In abnormal smear results, distribution has been detected as % 55 (74) ASCUS, % 2 (2) ASC-H, % 32 (44) LGSIL, % 4 (6) HGSIL, % 2 (3) invasive cancer and % 5 (7) AGS. Average age of patients who have been included in the study has been calculated as 45,7±11,5.

Conclusion:

Widespread use of the cancer screening programs in Turkey will yield decreased incidence and mortality of cervical cancer which is an important public health issue in terms of woman health.
