Obesity has been found as a risk factor for endocrine and metabolic complications such as insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes mellitus, hyperlipidemia, metabolic syndrome, non-alcoholic steatohepatitis, polycystic ovary syndrome and reproductive abnormalities. Adipose tissue acts as an endocrine organ. Many mediators which are released from adipose tissue contribute to the development of complications. Generally, as endocrine and metabolic complications of obesity can be resolved with weight loss and lifestyle changes, the fight against obesity is very important for decreasing of complication development.
