Objective:

To investigate the differences regarding demographic characteristics and maternal-fetal results between births in adolescent ages and controls who selected among women delivered between ages of 20 and 35.

Material and Method:

In year of 2014, among patients who applied to Istanbul Kanuni Sultan Suleyman Research and Training Hospital, results regarding 300 pregnant adolescents between ages of 14-19 and the 320 pregnant women between ages of 20-35 were included to study.

Results:

Average age of adolescent pregnant women were found to be 16.72±1.21, whereas average age of the pregnant women at reproductive phase were determined as 28.68±4.14. Cesarean section rates were lower and vaginal delivery with episiotomy was higher in adolescent pregnancies. The incidence of preeclampsia was higher in adolescent pregnancy group. Fetal anomalies were lower in adolescent group. Apgar scores at 1 minute were lower in adolescent group.

Conclusion:

Adolescent pregnancies are high-risk pregnancies because of being associated with poor maternal and fetal results. This should be taken into account in the management of adolescent pregnancies.
