Granulocytic sarcoma (GS) is a rare malignant neoplasm resulting from the extramedullary proliferation of mature or immature myeloid blasts or immature myeloid cells. It is more than twice as common in children as in adults with acute myeloid leukemia and its overall incidence is 4-5 %.
We herein report a 14-year-old-female who had referred with intracranial and spinal masses due to granulocytic sarcoma as the presenting symptoms of acute myeloid leukemia (AML). GS should be considered in the differential diagnosis of cranial masses particularly in pediatric patients and young adults. In patients with GS and neurological symptoms, appropriate combined chemotherapy may obviate surgical intervention. Prompt diagnosis and adequate treatment are essential to achieve a good outcome.
