Objective:

The aim of the study is to learn the preferences of Turkish women about the methods of protection from pregnancy.

Material and Methods:

349 women participated in our study. It is a questionnaire study consisting of 26 questions. SPSS 15.0 for windows was used. Mann Whitney U and Chi square tests were used to evaluate the patient’s data. p <0,05 was taken.

Results:

The average age of pregnancies is 28.4±5.7, the average marriage duration is 5.80±4.98 year. Method use rate is 70.5%.-26.1% withdrawal, 16.3% condom, 14.6% IUD, 11.2% oral contraceptives and 2.4% other methods. The average duration of use is 29.4±36.2 months. 50.7% of contraception were co-loaded. The rate of satisfaction with the method was 11.5%. The average number of children desired was 2.44±0.87. 60.5% of them planned this pregnancy. 90.5% of them will start contraception after birth. When a sufficient number of children reached, 24.1% of women would prefer permanent sterilization and 10.9% of their husband could do it. 53.02% of the women using the modern method had reached the method by spending. However, 88.8% of all women wanted to be able to access this service free of charge. Young couples prefer oral contraceptives and condoms, and as age progressed, IUD was preferred. Except for those under 20, withdrawal was the principal method used in all age groups. In the group of 30- 35 year-olds, the rate of non-use of protection decreased by 5%. Patients who did not use any of this methods and use withdrawal method have a low habit of applying to health facilities. This rate was higher in women who were using IUD and contraceptive pill (p<0.001).

Conclusion:

A population planning service which provides easy and free access can lead to higher use of modern methods.
